PNG, SVG or JPG?

All three come from the same rendering, so they look identical; they differ in where they work best.

Format	Best for	Notes
PNG	Slides, documents, chat and email	Transparent or white background. Pick 2× to 4× so it stays sharp on high-resolution screens.
SVG	Web pages, print, design tools, recent Word and PowerPoint	Vector: sharp at any zoom and small in size. The color is fixed in the file, so it does not depend on the page.
JPG	Places that only accept JPEG	Always on white, because JPG has no transparency. Slightly larger and softer than PNG for text.

How do I convert LaTeX to PNG?: Paste the formula into the LaTeX box, check the preview, keep PNG selected on the Image tab and press Download PNG. Copy image puts the PNG on the clipboard instead, ready to paste into slides or chat.
Can the PNG have a transparent background?: Yes. Transparent background is on by default for PNG and SVG; the checkered preview shows it. Untick it for a white background. JPG is always white.
What resolution are the images?: Size goes from 1× to 6×. At 1× the formula is about the size of 18-pixel text; 3× (the default) is three times that, which looks sharp in documents and on high-resolution screens. The exact pixel size is shown next to the download button.
When should I use SVG instead of PNG?: Use SVG when the formula may be scaled up, printed or placed on a web page: it is vector, so it never blurs. Use PNG where SVG is not accepted, such as many chat apps and older Office versions.
Can I change the color of the formula?: Yes. Pick any text color with the Color control; the preview and the downloaded image use the same color.
Which font is used?: Formulas are drawn by MathJax with its TeX fonts, the same look as a LaTeX document. Other math fonts such as Cambria Math are not available.
Are my formulas uploaded?: No. The image is drawn in your browser from your LaTeX, so nothing is sent to a server to make PNG, SVG or JPG files.
